Zepbound Injection & Storage (Canada)

ZEPBOUND (tirzepatide injection) is indicated for once-weekly administration for chronic weight management, including weight loss and weight maintenance, as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, in adults with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) or overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) with at least one weight-related comorbid condition.

Injection

Injection technique training

Prior to initiation of ZEPBOUND, train patients and caregivers on proper injection technique. Advise the patient to carefully read the Instructions for Use included with the Patient Medication Information, and to watch the instructional videos, before administering the medicinal product.[2]Section 4.4, page 5

Injection sites and rotation

Inject ZEPBOUND subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites with each dose.[3]Section 4.4, page 6

What to inspect before injecting

Inspect ZEPBOUND visually before use. It should appear clear and colorless to slightly yellow. Do not use ZEPBOUND if particulate matter or discoloration is seen. ZEPBOUND should not be used if the solution does not appear clear, free of particles, and colourless to slightly yellow. ZEPBOUND should not be used if the pen is damaged. If the KwikPen is dropped on a hard surface, it should not be used.[2]Section 4.4, page 5

Route restrictions

ZEPBOUND should not be administered intramuscularly or intravenously.[3]Section 4.4, page 6

Four doses per pen

Each ZEPBOUND multi-dose KwikPen delivers four doses. Patients using ZEPBOUND go through one pen per month as each pen delivers 4 doses of tirzepatide.[4]Section 12, page 21

Storage

Refrigerated storage

Store ZEPBOUND in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C up to the expiration date. Do not use ZEPBOUND beyond the expiration date. Do not freeze ZEPBOUND. Do not use ZEPBOUND if frozen. Protect ZEPBOUND from light.[1]Section 11, page 20

Room-temperature storage allowance

If needed, each multi-dose pen can be stored unrefrigerated at temperatures not to exceed 30°C for up to 30 days.[1]Section 11, page 20

Disposal

KwikPen — disposal after four doses

The ZEPBOUND multi-dose KwikPen contains 4 doses. The pen must be discarded in a puncture-resistant container, or in accordance with local requirements after the four weekly doses of ZEPBOUND have been used.[1]Section 11, page 20
