Generic semaglutide has arrived in Canada

2 of 9 manufacturers approved by Health Canada

April 28, 2026 β€” Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories approved β€” first generic semaglutide approved by Health Canada. Type 2 diabetes indication only (equivalent to generic Ozempic). Dr. Reddy’s resolved its October 2025 Notice of Non-Compliance in approximately six months.

May 1, 2026 β€” Apotex approved β€” Health Canada approved Apo-Semaglutide Injection, the second generic semaglutide product authorized in Canada. Type 2 diabetes indication only.

Through 2026 β€” Additional generic semaglutide submissions remain under Health Canada review. Decisions expected throughout the year; manufacturer production scale-up and pharmacy availability typically lag approval by weeks to months.
