Ozempic & Generic Semaglutide Prices in Canada

What you pay for Ozempic depends on your province's public drug plan, any private insurance or health spending account you have, and the cash price if you have neither. Every provincial plan below pays for Ozempic only through its own approval process, under criteria it publishes; none of the ten lists Wegovy as a benefit.

Public drug plans by province

• Ontario: Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB)

  ODB lists Ozempic and generic semaglutide as Limited Use benefits (LU codes 665, 666 and 667, one per pen); your prescriber adds the code when the plan's criteria apply. ODB pays brand Ozempic only up to the generic price. Wegovy isn't a benefit. Plan criteria

• Quebec: RAMQ public prescription drug insurance plan

  On the RAMQ list, Ozempic and its generics are exception medications: paid only after a prior authorization request meets the list's criteria, for the pens up to the 1 mg pen. Wegovy is not on the list. Plan criteria

• British Columbia: BC PharmaCare

  PharmaCare pays for Ozempic and generic semaglutide through Special Authority, requested by your prescriber; approvals don't expire and cover the pens up to the 1 mg pen. Brand Ozempic stays fully covered alongside the generics. Wegovy is a non-benefit. Plan criteria

• Alberta: Alberta government-sponsored drug programs

  On the Alberta Drug Benefit List, Ozempic and generic semaglutide are step therapy / special authorization drugs: a claims-history check or your prescriber's request, with approvals lasting 24 months. Since August 1, 2026, the plan pays brand Ozempic only up to the generic price. Wegovy is not on the list. Plan criteria

• Manitoba: Manitoba Pharmacare

  Manitoba Pharmacare covers Ozempic and generic semaglutide through Exception Drug Status (EDS), after your prescriber's request is approved. Pharmacare pays brand Ozempic only up to the generic price. Wegovy is not listed. Plan criteria

• Saskatchewan: Saskatchewan Drug Plan

  The Saskatchewan Drug Plan covers Ozempic and generic semaglutide through Exception Drug Status (EDS); the plan's system approves some requests automatically, otherwise your prescriber applies. Wegovy was not recommended for listing. Plan criteria

• Nova Scotia: Nova Scotia Pharmacare

  Nova Scotia Pharmacare gives Ozempic and generic semaglutide exception status: coverage follows a review of your prescriber's written request, up to one pen every four weeks. Brand and generic share one maximum reimbursement price. Wegovy is not on the formulary. Plan criteria

• New Brunswick: New Brunswick Drug Plans

  The New Brunswick Drug Plans cover Ozempic by special authorization only: your prescriber sends a request, and approvals cover up to one pen every four weeks. Generic semaglutide isn't listed, and Wegovy isn't a benefit. Plan criteria

• Newfoundland and Labrador: Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program (NLPDP)

  The NLPDP covers Ozempic and generic semaglutide by special authorization, for the pens up to the 1 mg pen. Brand Ozempic is normally paid at the generic price, but during a generic supply shortage NLPDP pays it in full until December 31, 2026. Wegovy is not listed. Plan criteria

• Prince Edward Island: PEI Pharmacare

  PEI Pharmacare covers Ozempic and generic semaglutide by special authorization: a physician, nurse practitioner or pharmacist sends the request, and approvals cover up to one pen every four weeks. Choosing a brand over a listed generic costs you the difference. Wegovy is not listed. Plan criteria
