Drug coverage in British Columbia

Public drug plans are run by the province, so the rules are the same in Vancouver as anywhere in British Columbia.

Ozempic: BC PharmaCare

PharmaCare pays for Ozempic and generic semaglutide through Special Authority, requested by your prescriber; approvals don't expire and cover the pens up to the 1 mg pen. Brand Ozempic stays fully covered alongside the generics. Wegovy is a non-benefit. Ozempic in British Columbia

Vancouver: frequently asked questions

How much does Ozempic cost in Vancouver?
We record prices by province, so these are British Columbia figures. Ozempic 0.25 mg (1 pen) costs $240–$317 at 3 pharmacies in BC on our list, lowest at London Drugs (updated October 2026). Every pharmacy and strength is on the Ozempic in British Columbia page.
How much is Mounjaro in Vancouver, BC?
Mounjaro 2.5 mg (1 pen) costs $340–$348 at 3 pharmacies in British Columbia, lowest at Rexall. The Mounjaro in British Columbia table lists every strength.
Is generic semaglutide sold in Vancouver?
Apotex's Apo-Semaglutide (generic Ozempic) has British Columbia prices on our list: $88 for 2 mg (1 pen), lowest at Costco Pharmacy. Stock differs between stores, so call ahead. Our generic Ozempic cost guide for BC has the full table.
What does Wegovy cost in Vancouver?
Wegovy 0.25 mg (1 pen) costs $428.99–$450.99 at 3 pharmacies in British Columbia (updated October 2026). See the Wegovy in British Columbia table for every strength.
Where can I get a prescription in Vancouver without a family doctor?
A walk-in clinic, an Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) or an online provider. The province says UPCCs "can also provide primary care to unattached patients", and HealthLink BC lists them. To be matched with a family doctor or nurse practitioner, register with the Health Connect Registry. Online providers on our list that serve BC: HIMS Canada, MedExpress, Felix, BirchRx, Jill Health, Pocketpills, Raven, Tia Health and Maple.
Can a Vancouver pharmacist prescribe Ozempic or Mounjaro?
No. In British Columbia a pharmacist cannot start a GLP-1 prescription: the College of Pharmacists of BC's minor ailments and contraception list does not include one. Under the College's policy PPP-58, a pharmacist can renew an existing prescription for continuity of care or adapt its dose, formulation or regimen.
Does BC PharmaCare work differently in Vancouver?
No. PharmaCare is provincial, so its rules are the same in Vancouver as anywhere in BC. The coverage section on this page summarizes how PharmaCare handles Ozempic and Wegovy, and our BC PharmaCare coverage guide goes through Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy and Zepbound one by one. For your own case, check the PharmaCare Formulary Search or ask your pharmacist.
Is a Burnaby or Surrey pharmacy price the same as a Vancouver one?
Not necessarily. Each pharmacy sets its own price, and we record prices for British Columbia as a whole. Where a record names a Metro Vancouver store, it is listed in the store records section of this page. Call the store before you fill.
