Frequently asked questions

Can a walk-in clinic or UPCC in BC prescribe Mounjaro?
Yes. A physician or nurse practitioner at a walk-in clinic or an Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) can prescribe it, the same as anywhere in Canada. A UPCC can also provide primary care to patients without a family doctor. A clinician meeting you for the first time only has what you tell them, without your history.
Can a pharmacist in BC prescribe Mounjaro for me?
No. BC's PPMAC program covers a defined list of minor ailments plus contraception; a GLP-1 isn't on it. Under the College's PPP-58, a BC pharmacist can renew an existing Mounjaro prescription for continuity of care or adapt its dose, formulation or regimen, but cannot start one. Alberta is the only province where a pharmacist with an added credential can.
What is a UPCC, and is it different from a walk-in clinic?
An Urgent and Primary Care Centre gives same-day care for urgent illnesses or injuries that aren't life-threatening. The Province of British Columbia says a UPCC "can also provide primary care to unattached patients," meaning people without a family doctor. Search HealthLink BC's directory to find the nearest one.
Does MSP or BC PharmaCare cover Mounjaro?
MSP covers medically required physicians' services, not this medication. Mounjaro is not in BC PharmaCare's formulary search, and BC lists it as under review for type 2 diabetes. Check the PharmaCare formulary search or ask your pharmacist for the current status.
Which online providers serve BC?
From our records, these providers serve British Columbia and their own websites say they prescribe Mounjaro: HIMS Canada, MedExpress, Felix, Jill Health, Pocketpills, Raven and Maple. See the table at the top of this page for their fees and links.
Where can I fill a Mounjaro prescription in BC?
Any licensed BC pharmacy: chain, independent or mail-order. Current pharmacy-by-pharmacy prices, including the cheapest we've found, are on our Mounjaro in British Columbia price table. Each KwikPen holds four weekly doses.
Can I get Mounjaro prescribed off-label in BC?
Mounjaro's Health Canada approval is for adults with type 2 diabetes; its monograph lists no weight-management use, in BC or anywhere else. A prescription for another use would be off-label, which is a decision between you and your prescriber. Some prescribers will consider it; others won't.
Can I get a Mounjaro prescription online in BC without a family doctor?
Yes. Online services, walk-in clinics and UPCCs don't require a family doctor. See our guide to getting a GLP-1 prescription without a family doctor.

Update log

  • Guide published, verified August 26, 2026.
  • Felix's tirzepatide prices are no longer quoted with a fixed date; the Felix review has its current prices. The pharmacy price sentence now reads "updated" with the date of our newest price record.
  • New title and first paragraph, and a table of online providers that serve BC and whose own website says they prescribe Mounjaro. Added Mounjaro's BC PharmaCare status. The page no longer singles out one provider. Corrected the descriptions of PharmaCare, Special Authority, PPP-58, UPCCs and MSP to match their sources.
  • PharmaCare's plans are no longer given as a fixed number; the page now says PharmaCare has several plans.
