Wegovy Prescription Online in British Columbia: Providers & Cost (2026)

Wegovy's Health Canada approval includes chronic weight management, with body mass index (BMI) criteria set out in its monograph (Wegovy Product Monograph, section 1). Those criteria are the same in every province. See the Canada-wide guide for the monograph text.

What this page covers instead: what a BC pharmacist can and can't do for you, an urgent-care option BC offers, how BC PharmaCare treats Wegovy, and where to fill the prescription once you have one.

Your family doctor. "Medically required services you receive from physicians and midwives are medical benefits of MSP" (Province of British Columbia, Services Covered by MSP), so a medically necessary visit costs you nothing directly. A doctor who has your chart can also record a measured height and weight and any weight-related condition, which the BMI criteria refer to.

A walk-in clinic. A physician's medically required services are MSP benefits there too. A clinician meeting you for the first time can measure you, but only has the history you tell them.

An Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC). The Province of British Columbia says "Urgent and primary care centres provide same-day healthcare services for urgent non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries. UPCCs can also provide primary care to unattached patients" (B.C.'s Primary Care System). For someone without a family doctor, the second sentence is the useful one. Hours vary by clinic, so search HealthLink BC's UPCC directory before you go.

A pharmacist. In BC, a pharmacist cannot start a new Wegovy prescription. BC's Pharmacist Prescribing for Minor Ailments and Contraception (PPMAC) covers a defined list of minor ailments plus contraception; a GLP-1 medication is not on it (College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, in effect since June 1, 2023).

A BC pharmacist can help with a Wegovy prescription a doctor or nurse practitioner already wrote. The College's policy PPP-58 lets pharmacists "change the dose, formulation, or regimen of a prescription; renew a prescription for continuity of care; and make therapeutic drug substitutions." Adapting is at each pharmacist's discretion (College of Pharmacists of BC, PPP-58).

Alberta is the only jurisdiction in Canada where independent pharmacist prescribing for any Schedule I drug is implemented (CPhA). BC is not. See who can prescribe GLP-1s in Canada for every province and territory.

An online visit is a practical route if you don't have a regular BC provider. Confirm that a service serves British Columbia before you pay; not every provider covers every province.

The table at the top of this page lists the online providers on our list that serve BC and whose own website says they prescribe Wegovy, with their fees. Confirm which medication a provider will prescribe for you, and its current price, before you start an intake. Approval is not guaranteed.

BC's public drug program is PharmaCare. It has several plans, and one person can be covered by more than one (gov.bc.ca, Who we cover). Fair PharmaCare is one of them: coverage is based on income, and it starts once you register (Fair PharmaCare, gov.bc.ca). Not every medication is covered (gov.bc.ca, PharmaCare).

BC PharmaCare's coverage decision for Wegovy, dated December 18, 2025, is "Non-benefit." The same document notes that Novo Nordisk told the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance it "would no longer be seeking public coverage of Wegovy in Canada" (BC PharmaCare drug coverage decision).

Special Authority is BC's request process: "Some drugs require a special request from a healthcare provider to be partially or fully covered." Drugs PharmaCare doesn't normally cover are considered only "on an exceptional, last-resort basis" (gov.bc.ca, Special Authority). Ask your prescriber whether it could apply to you.

A valid Wegovy prescription can generally be filled at any licensed BC pharmacy: chains, independents or mail-order. Pharmacies set their own cash prices, and the same pen can cost more at one than at another.

Not having a family doctor doesn't stop you getting care. Three routes still work: a walk-in clinic, a UPCC (which can also provide primary care to patients without a family doctor), and an online visit. Bring what you can, such as recent bloodwork, blood pressure readings, past diagnoses and your pharmacy's records, since the BMI criteria refer to weight-related conditions.

The same warning signs apply in BC as anywhere in Canada. The CMA says that if a site offers a GLP-1 drug without a prescription, that's a major red flag (CMA). Health Canada says a legitimate online pharmacy "Requires a valid prescription from a physician or other health practitioner licensed to practice in Canada," is licensed by a provincial or territorial pharmacy regulatory authority (in BC, the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia), and gives a street address in Canada (Health Canada, Choosing a safe online pharmacy). Because most people pay for Wegovy themselves, a price far below a licensed pharmacy's is a warning sign.
