Ozempic coverage in British Columbia
Public plan: BC PharmaCare
In British Columbia, prescription drugs are covered by BC PharmaCare. Most people are on Fair PharmaCare, where you may pay part or all of a drug's cost until you reach your deductible or family maximum for the year.
PharmaCare lists Ozempic as a Limited Coverage drug, so it pays only after a Special Authority approval. Your prescriber requests Special Authority online or by fax, and requests sent through eForms can be approved automatically when PharmaCare's published criteria are met. A semaglutide approval is indefinite.
Special Authority covers the pens up to the 1 mg pen; the 2 mg pen is under review, so it isn't covered. PharmaCare covers either semaglutide or a DPP-4 inhibitor, not both.
Since June 15, 2026, generic semaglutide from Apotex and Dr. Reddy's has been listed under the Low Cost Alternative program with full coverage, also through Special Authority. PharmaCare said brand Ozempic remains fully covered through Special Authority to support supply.
Wegovy is a non-benefit. PharmaCare's December 2025 decision came after national negotiations with the manufacturer ended without an agreement.
