Ozempic coverage in Nova Scotia
Public plan: Nova Scotia Pharmacare
Nova Scotia's public drug coverage comes from the Nova Scotia Pharmacare programs, including Seniors' Pharmacare and Family Pharmacare, which use the Nova Scotia Formulary.
Ozempic and generic semaglutide (Apo-Semaglutide and Dr. Reddy's semaglutide) have exception status on the formulary. Exception status drugs are covered only after a review of the prescriber's written request against the criteria Nova Scotia publishes for each drug. The same exception status applies to the 2 mg/1.5 mL, 2 mg/3 mL and 4 mg/3 mL pens, which are billed per pen, and approvals are for a maximum of one pre-filled pen every four weeks.
All the semaglutide pens, brand and generic, carry the same maximum reimbursement price. If you ask for a higher-priced product, you pay the extra cost, and it does not count toward your annual maximum copayment or deductible.
Ozempic's 2 mg and 4 mg pens were first listed with exception status in October 2020.
Wegovy is not on the September 2026 Nova Scotia Formulary.
