Ozempic coverage in Saskatchewan
Public plan: Saskatchewan Drug Plan
Saskatchewan residents are covered by the Saskatchewan Drug Plan, which uses the Saskatchewan Formulary.
Ozempic and the listed generics (Apo-Semaglutide and Dr. Reddy's semaglutide) are Exception Drug Status (EDS) benefits, not regular formulary benefits, so the Drug Plan pays only once EDS is approved under the criteria published in Appendix A of the formulary. The online formulary shows "(EDS)" next to each pen: Ozempic (DINs 02471469, 02471477 and 02540258) and the generics (DINs 02568020, 02568012, 02567806 and 02567814), which are listed as interchangeable with Ozempic.
Semaglutide is marked for possible online EDS adjudication: the Drug Plan's system can approve EDS automatically when it finds certain earlier medications, prescribers or age groups in its records. Otherwise your prescriber applies for EDS.
Ozempic was first recommended as an EDS benefit in October 2020.
Wegovy is not covered: the Drug Plan's February 2023 bulletin lists it as not recommended for formulary listing, and it does not appear in the online formulary.
