Wegovy coverage
Public drug plans
None of the ten provincial public drug plans pays for Wegovy. It is a non-benefit in BC PharmaCare and off-formulary in Ontario, where the Ontario Drug Benefit program doesn't pay for it. Quebec's minister decided on March 4, 2026 not to add it to the RAMQ list, and it isn't on the formularies of Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador or Prince Edward Island. Negotiations for public coverage through the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance ended on December 1, 2025 without an agreement, after Novo Nordisk said it would no longer seek public coverage of Wegovy in Canada.
Private insurance
Private plans set their own rules: Wegovy is covered only on plans that include it (at Sun Life it's an optional drug category). Where a plan includes it, insurers such as Canada Life and Sun Life ask for prior authorization: your prescriber sends the insurer's form, and the insurer pays only when its criteria are met.
