Telehealth provider Hers Canada is now listing generic semaglutide manufactured by Apotex as available through its platform, citing Health Canada authorization and framing Apotex as one of Canada's largest pharmaceutical companies.
What the Hers listing says
On its Canadian landing page, Hers states that generic versions of semaglutide β the medicinal ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy β are now in Canada, and that the generic it references is approved by Health Canada and manufactured by Apotex. The company notes that semaglutide, including approved generic formulations, is authorized for sale by Health Canada for specific indications and is available by prescription only, with a licensed Canadian healthcare provider determining appropriateness.
Hers also states that Ozempic and Wegovy are registered trademarks of Novo Nordisk A/S.
The regulatory backdrop
Health Canada authorized the first generic semaglutide injection on April 28, 2026, making Canada the first G7 country to approve a generic version of semaglutide. The initial submission, cleared that day, was filed by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories as a generic version of the brand-name drug Ozempic.
At the time of that announcement, Health Canada stated it was reviewing eight other submissions for generic semaglutide from different companies and expected to make regulatory decisions on more submissions in the coming weeks and months. Readers can follow pending files through our generic semaglutide tracker.
Apotex as a named manufacturer
The Hers Canada page specifically names Apotex as the manufacturer of the generic semaglutide product it references, describing Apotex as one of Canada's largest pharmaceutical companies. Apotex also appears across Health Canada's generic submissions under review registry as an applicant for a range of molecules.

The pairing of a direct-to-consumer telehealth brand with a domestic generic manufacturer marks a distribution channel shift in Canada, where branded semaglutide has historically moved primarily through traditional pharmacy chains such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Costco, Walmart, and Rexall.
What Hers says about pricing
Hers states that when the first generics arrive, the cost of semaglutide medications is expected to drop significantly, with further reductions as more generics enter the market, and that brand-name prices are also likely to come down as competition increases. The Hers page does not list a specific CAD price for generic semaglutide.
For reference, current pharmacy prices tracked on GLP1Prices.ca show branded Ozempic ranging from $86.40 to $663 CAD and Wegovy ranging from $270 to $550 CAD, depending on strength, quantity, and pharmacy. Context for the Canadian market
Semaglutide products from Novo Nordisk sold in Canada include Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. Eli Lilly's tirzepatide products Mounjaro and Zepbound remain outside the current generic pathway, as the April 28, 2026 Health Canada authorization applies to semaglutide injection only.
