Hims & Hers is expanding its Canadian direct-to-consumer telehealth platform with generic semaglutide plans starting at CAD $149 per month, following the loss of Novo Nordisk's Canadian patent protection for Ozempic and Wegovy.
The $149 Monthly Entry Point
Eligible Canadian customers can access personalized plans that may include generic semaglutide starting at CAD $149 per month, bundled with ongoing support from care teams covering nutrition, sleep and physical activity. The entry price sits well below the brand Ozempic range tracked on GLP1Prices.ca, which currently runs from $86.40 to $663 CAD depending on strength, quantity and pharmacy.
Regulatory Backdrop
The telehealth expansion comes after Health Canada authorized the country's first generic semaglutide injection on April 28, 2026, manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, making Canada the first G7 nation to clear a generic GLP-1 product. Days later, on May 1, 2026, Health Canada also authorized Canadian-based Apotex's generic version.
Health Canada has stated it continues to review additional generic semaglutide submissions from other companies. As of the most recent Drug and Health Product Register query, the only semaglutide-branded products listed are Novo Nordisk Canada's Ozempic and Rybelsus.
Pricing Framework That Could Push Costs Lower
According to the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance pricing structure described by University of Toronto pharmaceutical policy expert Mina Tadrous, the first generic medication could be priced at 75 to 85 per cent of the brand name. Once a second generic enters the market, the price for both drops to 50 per cent of the brand, and with three or more generic products available, the cost would decrease to approximately 35 per cent of brand-name Ozempic's price.

Health Canada has noted that generic medications are often 45 to 90 per cent cheaper than brand-name versions.
Competitive and Legal Context
The Canadian launch follows increased regulatory and legal scrutiny around compounded and unapproved GLP-1 products sold online and through telehealth providers. Earlier in 2026, Novo Nordisk filed and later dropped a patent infringement lawsuit against Hims & Hers before the companies announced a strategic partnership related to FDA-approved GLP-1 therapies.

- First Canadian generic authorization: April 28, 2026 (Dr. Reddy's)
- Second Canadian generic authorization: May 1, 2026 (Apotex)
What This Means for Canadian Shoppers
With more generic entrants expected to clear Health Canada review, the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance's tiered framework points to further price compression as additional generics launch. Canadians comparing pharmacy pricing can monitor movements across major chains and online providers using the generic semaglutide tracker and verify plan reimbursement using the insurance coverage checker. For common questions about brand versus generic availability, see our FAQ. Pricing for tirzepatide products such as Mounjaro and Zepbound is not affected by the semaglutide patent expiry.
